Indus Style Awards |
 |
Amid the
picturesque backdrop of the Bhurban hills, Indus Vision recently cast
a magical spell on the worlds of fashion, music and TV with its ‘First
Indus Style Awards,’ another first for the network. “Indus created a
coup,” enthused fashion doyenne Maheen Khan who was inducted into
Indus’s Style Hall of Fame along with fashion pioneers Faiza Samee,
Nilofer Shahid, Rizwan Beyg; photographer Arif Mahmood and stylist
Nabila Maqsood. “Getting so many of the fashion industry under one
platform and in such a special setting is no mean feat. You are
stars,” Maheen added. Indus Vision
created a myriad of ‘special’ awards including a ‘Style Legend’
laurel for fashion pioneer Tanveer Jamshed of Teejays who praised “the
superlative efforts and presentation of the Indus team”; prestigious

and female ‘Style Icon’
awards and two ‘Style Guru’ awards which were handed out to Deepak
Perwani and Amir Adnan respectively. |

Other “fun” categories included ‘Most Questionable Style’ whose
nominees included Tipu Shah and Atif Aslam; ‘Most Individual Style’
where ‘supermodel’ Aaminah Haq and Nadya Mistry competed with stylist
Tariq Amin; and ‘Sound of Style’ for most stylish pop star in which
Hadiqa Kiyani’s sartorial elegance was pitted against Ali Azmat’s
laidback nonchalance.
Saima Rasheed’s
Donatella Versace like flamboyance was rivaled with Shaheen
Saeed’s quietude and Mubashir Khan’s metrosexuality in the ‘Most
Stylish Stylist’ category; while photographers, who are more
accustomed to shooting style rather than imbibing it in their personal
lives were also judged and included nominees Shamyl Khuro, Khawar Riaz,
Tapu Javeri, Ather Shahzad and Rizwan Baig of Deevees. Television was not
to be sidelined as awards were handed out to the “Most Stylish TV
Actor” in which the triumvirate of
Humayun

Saeed, Aijaz Aslam and Adnan Siddiqui were nominated alongside
newbie actor Imran Abbas, and “Most Stylish TV Actress”
which |
 |
interestingly was dominated by
model-turned-actresses (MTAs) Zee Q, Sunita Marshall, Zhallay
Sarhawady, and Tooba Siddiqui with Maria Wasti being the exception to
the MTA monopoly.
Many audience members
wanted to offer their own nominations for the unique category of
‘Style Encore’ in which artists such as film actor Shaan, and singers
Rahim Shah, Farieha Pervez and Shahzad Roy vied for the award which
lauded the best transformation in personal style.
Convincingly attired
Britney Spears, Madonna, Zeenat Aman look-a-likes and an archetype of
a ‘Pakistani Supermodel’ played emcees at the awards that featured
musical performances by Faakir accompanied by Adnan Siddiqui on the
tabla; Annie with Rhythm X; Jimmy Attre and Jal. One of
the most chilling |
|
performances was by
Indus’s supernova ‘find’ Masooma
who awed the audience with her soul-searing voice. “It was Ghazanfar Ali’s (CEO
of Indus TV Network) goodwill that made so many of us participate and come
to Bhurban” explained Rizwan Beyg who |
 |
added that the Indus team deserved kudos for their
fun presentation. Amid the musical performances Karachi and Lahore
designers including Munib Nawaz, Usman Dittu and Deepak Perwani; and
Karma, HSY and ABCD showed their latest collections choreographed by
Imran Kureishi, alongside the neophyte creations of students from
Karachi’s Asian Institute of Fashion Design (AIFD) and Lahore’s
Pakistan School of Fashion Design (PSFD).
Humorously titled awards were handed out to men’s
wear designers and women’s wear designers who have been designing less
than 10 years in the form of ‘Style Bhai’ and ‘Billo Style’
respectively. “It was a beautiful
setting where fashion people, musicians, and TV stars genuinely had
fun in an environment of camaraderie relaxation and goodwill,” glowed
presenter Sheikh Amer Hasan who was also nominated for “Most
Individual Style. |
